Sand Eagles Crowned Champion at Copa Lagos
Nigeria's Supersand Eagles have won the 2013 Copa Lagos Beach soccer
championship beating debutants, Senegal 4-2 in the final on Sunday.
The Eagles had earlier threatened to boycott the encounter due to
unpaid allowances, but after hours of talk, they went on and emerged
champions.
This will be the third consecutive time that the Supersand Eagles
will win the Copa Lagos Beach soccer championship after winning the
previous two editions.
The Nigerians began the game on a brighter momentum as the Senegalese
were peppered with flurry of attacks and it took only ten minute for
the Sand Eagles to broke the deadlock.
A superb strike from Badmus Babatunde was enough for Nigeria as they
showed the Senegalese the stuff they are made of in the first period.
Senegal came out smoking in the second period as parity was restored
through Kapakuki, but Sand Eagles took the game beyond their foes in the
final period with goals from Abu Azeez, Vitor Tale and Emeka Ogbonna.
Captain of the Nigerian team, Isiaka Olawale expressed happiness after the final whistle was blown by the center referee.
“I am so much happy that we have won the Copa Lagos again for the
third time and I want to thank all our fans who have been so good to us
in Lagos,” the midfield maestro told supersport.com afterwards.
