Head coach of the Nigeria Under-20 football team, John Obuh has voiced his satisfaction with his team’s display in Thursday’s 1-0 win over South Korea in Group B of the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in Turkey.
The win sealed Nigeria’s place in the round of 16 where they will now face the second-placed team in Group F.
Obuh has now taken the time to assess his side’s performance against the Koreans as he praised his wards for the win.
“We made one or two mistakes but overall I’m okay with our performance,” he said.
The gaffer also has kind words for Thursday’s vanquished opponents.
"Korea are a good team even though we beat them. They have shown they can come back from defeat, like they did against Cuba and then Portugal. So, we had to be a little bit cautious against them,” he said.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles were full value for their win on Thursday as they dominated for long stretches.
Striker Olarenwaju Kayode scored the winner as he headed home Abduljeleel Ajagun’s free kick on nine minutes and Obuh was suitably impressed.
“Kayode has worked really hard for this team getting many of our assists here and he just needed to score a goal and I’m happy he did just that today (Thursday).
“He has justified the confidence the entire team have in him,” said coach Obuh.
Nigeria have now joined Europeans, Spain, France and Portugal as the first four teams through to the round of 16.
