It was not a happy outing for the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on Wednesday, losing their second game at the African Under 17 Championship to Ivory Coast.
A late goal by Anderson Dogbolé Niangbo, was the defining factor as the Young Elephants defeated Nigeria 1-0 at the Marrekech Stadium, which took them to the top of group B.
A defensive lapse by the Golden Eaglets, allowed Dogbole Niangbo to capitalise and collect a square-ball from Kouassi Begbin to score in an empty net on the 90th minute, after goalkeeper Adeyinka Adewale was indecisive in the box.
Ivory Coast were the better team missing several opportunities that would have cemented the victory long ago, but rode on their luck when Nigeria’s defence gifted them the goal,in the dying minutes of the game.
Nigeria are now in second position on three points,a point behind Ivory Coast, who top the group on four points.
The Golden Eaglets will next play against Congo DR on April 20th,looking to qualify for the semi-finals,as only the first four countries, qualifies for the FIFA Under 17 World Cup.
