Southern Kaduna Makes Case For Late Yakowa’s Wife

Southern Kaduna Concerned PDP Supporters, has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to consider appointing the widow of late Kaduna State governor, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, minister following the recent sacking of nine ministers from the federal cabinet.

It would be recalled that the former minister of environment, Hadiza Mailafia, from  Kaduna State was relieved of her duties alongside eight others last week.

In a letter addressed to the president, the group alleged that Southern Kaduna has returned to its marginal status following the death of Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa who died in a helicopter crash in December 2012.

The group posited that in the interest of peace, equity and social justice, the political equation in the state as it involves the north and south, needed to be balanced. They also claimed this would give them a sense of belonging and boost support for the president in 2015.

“Based on this, Mr President, we appeal and request that in the interest of peace, equity, and social justice, we humbly wish to request for a ministerial slot in your cabinet to balance the political divide in our dear state, Kaduna vis-a-vis north and south .This will give the people of South Kaduna a political sense of belonging and a rallying point towards achieving the ultimate objectives of Mr President.

“Mr President Sir, if our request is given a favourable consideration, the political balancing in Kaduna State will stand thus: vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, north divide; the executive governor of Kaduna State, north divide; speaker of Kaduna State House of Assembly, north divide; deputy speaker, Kaduna State House of Assembly, south divide; secretary to Kaduna State government, north divide; deputy governor of Kaduna State, south divide.

The group therefore named wife of the late governor, Dame Mrs Amina Patrick Yakowa, Hon William Maisaje, Sen. Isaiah Balat and Hon. Sunday Mashal Katung as candidates that would provide credible rallying points for the Southern Kaduna people at the federal level.

Pledging their total loyalty and solidarity to the president, the group said the nominees are worthy and “will ensure Mr. President’s Objectives in nation building.”
