Osun Govt Declares Today As Public Holiday For Isese Festival

Government of the state of Osun has declared today a public holiday for celebration of traditional African festival known as Isese Festival.
 
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Regional Integration and Special Duties, said it is in  line with the policy thrust of the present administration to provide equal platform for all religions and to promote communal peace and progress, in a statement.


The statement further states that the governor of the of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola in pursuant to Section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act CAP P40 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2010, scheduled the 20th day of August as a special date to be kept as a public holiday for the celebration of ISESE DAY for all adherents of Traditional African Religion.

Although public schools are on holiday, Channels Television observed that public servants and Banks were not open to customers which are an indication to the adherence of the public holiday declared by the state government.

The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘promoting religious tolerance and cooperation for social, economic and political development of the state of Osun’.
