Manchester United wins Community Shield

Two goals in each half,by Robin Van Persie, helped Manchester United defeat Wigan Athletic 2-0 to win the FA Community Shield.

Van Persie opened the scores just six minutes into the game, after a well angled cross from Patrice Evra, found his head,to knock down into the net for 1-0.

Though Manchester United were dominant in possession,it was Wigan who finished the first half strongly, but were timid to take their chances.

Van Persie, who was made the new Holland Skipper last week, doubled his effort in the 59th minute, with his shot deflected by the heel of James Perch to wrong-foot Scott Carson, and make the score 2-0.

David Moyes with the win,has started his time as Manchester United manager on a good footing, winning his first trophy at the club.

Manchester United have now won the Community Shield a record 20 times, more than any other clubside.

They will start the defence of their Premier League title away on Saturday against Swansea.
