LG vice chairman kidnapped in Edo, escaped from abductors in Delta

The rage by kidnappers in Edo State continued unabated on Tuesday, as two people were abducted at different locations of the state.

While the management of Irrua Speacilist Hospital, Irrua, were busy late Monday, celebrating the release of one of their doctors, Dr Edeawe Osahogie, who had been earlier kidnapped, news surfaced that a pharmacist in the hospital was kidnapped on Tuesday.

This came after two teachers and three children had been abducted on Sunday.

In another kidnap attempt on Monday, the vice chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government Council of the state, Honourable Walter Aiwekho, regained freedom after he had been reportedly abducted at Ogan, near Abudu, on his way to work at Ehor, the administrative headquarters of Uhunmwode Local Government Council.

The vice chairman, it was learnt, escaped from his abductors after the car he was being conveyed in had an accident at Obiaruku, Delta State.

He was said to have reported the incident at Obiaruku Police Station in Ukwuani Local Government Council of Delta State.

Chief Press Secretary to the vice chairman, Osaro Idahosa, confirmed his boss’s escape from his abductors in Benin.

When contacted, Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, also confirmed the incident .
He said: “It is true the vice chairman escaped. We are doing something about it,” adding that he was consulting with the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in Obiaruku area to fish out the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, president of the Association of Resident Doctors, Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Dr Charles Gigi, attributed the release of their kidnapped doctor to God and a protest march held by members of the Association of Resident Doctors, (MDCAN) and private medical practitioners in Irrua area.

While praising their efforts, he said resident doctors in the hospital had been reinvigorated to continue to cater for the health of the people, calling on government to ensure the safety of lives of medical practitioners.
