The chairmanship of the All Progressive Congress (APC) zoned to the
Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has become a source of disagreement
and rivalry within the merging parties, the Nigerian Tribune has learnt.
Party sources who confessed that they had been banned from talking to the media disclosed that the party’s chairmanship zoned to the ACN is now a source of disagreement, pitching the ACN national leader, Senator Bola Tinubu and governors of the party against one another.
While the party leader reportedly preferred the retention of Chief Bisi Akande as the new national chairman of the APC, governors of the party were said to have opted for Chief Tom Ikimi, former Foreign Affairs Minister.
It was learnt that the issue has become so protracted that General Muhammadu Buahri had intervened in the matter without any resolution, while leaders of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) had also shown their preference in the internal battle over the chairmanship.
A party source told the Nigerian Tribune that the unresolved issue was what the party elders assembled in Abuja on Wednesday to decide, even as it was gathered that the matter still remained unresolved.
