ACF To Jonathan: Your Action Is Naive

Apparently miffed at the deployment of military troops to the three north-eastern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa following the emergency rule declared by President Goodluck Jonathan, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) yesterday told the president that deployment of military troops to combat terrorists in the affected states was naïve.

Rising from its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting presided over by Alhaji Aliko Mohammed, the ACF also warned the military to avoid measures that will cause increase in civilian casualties and bloodshed under the cover of emergency rule.
The ACF, in a communiqué signed by its deputy National Publicity Secretary, Fati Ibrahim, expressed concern that the federal government did not consider the increased military deployments as a superior alternative to the slower and more tedious path of dialogue, negotiation and conciliation.
“Given the dismal history of peace-making campaigns by the military all over the world, dispatching battalion after battalion to the field in the hope of combating insurgents or terrorists sounds naïve,” the communiqué read.
