Big French and European spenders Monaco have hired Nigerian international forward Elderson Echeijile from Portuguese side Sporting Braga on Friday.
The 25-year left winger signed a 4 and half year old contract until June 2018 for an undisclosed fee.
Monaco paid Sporting Braga 1.5 million euro for the Super Eagles player whose contract was set to expire this summer.
“I am very happy to be back to France and in a club like Monaco that is one of the best clubs in Europe who has a big reputation in Africa since George Weah’s surge in it,” the former Rennes striker told the club’s official website.
“Many excellent Nigerian players have wore this Jersey (Monaco) like Victor Ikpeba or Lukman Haruna and I will do my best to follow on their footsteps,” he added.
Echiejile is set to compete with Layvin Kurzawa who has been an undisputed choice for coach Claudio Ranieri over the past six months.
The Italian tactician is looking to add depth to his squad during this transfer window as he had already brought in two players; Ivorian striker Lacina Traore and now Nigerian Elderson Echiejile.
