Morsi trial adjourned amid chanting

The judge in the trial of Egypt's deposed Islamist president and 14 others adjourned the hearing soon after it started today because the defendants' chants were disrupting the proceedings, according to state TV.

The adjournment - likely to last until later today - came after a two-hour delay in the start of the proceedings.

Security officials inside the courtroom in Cairo said the delay was caused by Mohammed Morsi insisting he would not change into the prison uniform customarily worn by defendants, part of his refusal to recognise the trial's legitimacy.

Morsi and the others are charged with inciting murder and could face the death penalty if convicted.
