Delta Speaker Honorable Victor Ochei Escapes Assassination

The Delta State Police Command is investigating claims made by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly that the lawmaker was a target of assassins over the weekend.

The Speaker, Honorable Victor Ochei alleged that assassins had triggered off an explosion at Obomkpa in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, during a routine familiarization and thank-you tour of his Aniocha North Constituency.


A lady whose left ankle was badly injured in the explosion was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba and later referred to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital Oghara for further medical attention.

“Even though I was at a point warned not to come there, I didn’t see a reason why I would be warned not to go to a part of my primary constituency”.

“To say the least, I was shocked beyond measures that we could get to this point. I never thought we’d ever get to that kind of point in whatever politics we try to play, to use such improvised explosive device under a canopy.”

He insisted “It wasn’t any mistake of any sort.”
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Lucky Uyambe said “the mystery we are now trying to unravel is how come the local canons were planted under the seat where the speaker was to be seated”

“Is it an assassination attempt? Is it carelessness? Investigation will prove. Meanwhile, the suspect arrested is helping the police in this investigation.”
