FG Condemns Attack On Nigerian Embassy In Guinea Bissau

The federal government yesterday condemned the attack on Nigerian Embassy in Guinea Bissau which killed a citizen and injured several persons, saying it was inhuman and barbaric.

Special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Dr Reuben Abati told journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting that President Goodluck Jonathan and his cabinet members discussed the incident which received wide reaction from the public.


Accordingly, Abati said President Jonathan has since ordered Nigerian Ambassador to Guinea Bissau to commence full investigation into the case and unravel reasons behind the attacks.

“When the incident happened, the Ambassador in Guinea Bissau waded into the matter and protested to the authorities and said that it is unacceptable. You can be rest assured that this government is committed to the protection of the lives of Nigerians within or in Diaspora”, Abati noted.

Armed personnel and militias had stormed the Nigerian embassy and attacked the place for reasons still unknown, though the incident happened at a time Guinea Bissau is preparing for its general elections billed to hold next month.

Guinea-Bissau currently has an interim president, Manuel Serifo Nhamadjo, who emerged in May 2012 to head a transitional government following the sacking of the country’s democratically-elected government by a military coup.
