Roger Federer crashes out of the US Open

Seventeen Grand Slam winner,Roger Federer was on Monday knocked out of the US Open Tennis tournament at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Federer suffered a shock loss to Spaniard Tommy Robredo in the fourth round, losing in straight sets  7-6 (7-3) 6-3 6-4.

The loss quashes the prospects of Federer setting up a quarter-final meeting with arch-rival Rafael Nadal.
“I kind of feel like I beat myself, without taking any credit away from Tommy,” said Federer.

“I kind of self destructed, which is very disappointing, especially on a quicker court. Your serve helps you out. You’re going to make the difference somewhere. I just couldn’t do it. It was a frustrating performance today.”

“I’ve definitely got to go back to work and come back stronger, get rid of this loss now as quick as I can, forget about it, because that’s not how I want to play from here on,” he said.

“I want to play better. I know I can. I showed it the last few weeks, that there is that level, so today was pretty frustrating.”

Meanwhile Rafael Nadal had to fight back from a set down,to defeat Philipp Kohlschreiber and reach the last eight.

Nadal defeated the German 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 6-3 6-1 and will now play against fellow Spaniard Tommy Robredo in the quarter-final.
