Nigeria Among Fastest Growing Economies – Maku

The minister of information and the supervising minister of Defence, Mr Labaran Maku, has said that the President Jonathan administration has  strived hard to place the country’s economy among the fastest economies in the world in the last three years.

According to the press statement issued yesterday, the minister made the assertion in Abuja at a pre-centenary service of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, where with the help of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria’s dwindling economy has been reactivated and made one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

The minister stated that President Jonathan had remained focused on developing the country through his Transformation Agenda despite the contemporary security challenges and the deliberate over-heating of the polity for individual political ambitions.

He disclosed that the President was addressing the deficit in infrastructure through systematic policy reforms that have started yielding results in different sectors.

Also, he announced  that, so far, the construction of seven power plants had been completed while others are coming on stream very soon in the renewed effort to tackle the challenge of power supply in the country.

Maku noted that 32 road projects were completed across the country in 2012 as part of the infrastructure renewal.

He therefore, urged Nigerians to disregard the ranting of the political opposition who are bent of misleading the public for selfish political reasons.

The minister told the congregation that  Jonathan had the constitutional right to re-contest the presidency in 2015 if he chooses to do so and called for the support of Nigerians to consolidate the development of the country.

Maku stressed that Nigerians reserve the right to decide who to vote for in the elections based on the track records and achievements of the contestants.
