The Imo state police command has arrested a 53 year old man, Mr Fidelis Chukwujindu, an indigene of Umudumabiakam Ogboko in Ideato north local government area of Imo state, who was alleged to have swindled over 500 young boys and girls seeking admission into tertiary institution by floating an illegal and non-existing university college hospital in Ogboko, which he claimed was an affiliation of a university in the United Kingdom.www.channelstv.com
While briefing journalists at the premises of the non-existing university college hospital, the Imo state commissioner for police, Mohammed Katsina said the suspect was arrested by the intelligence unit of the command at the school premises when he was conducting fake entrance examination for over 100 students who purchased the admission forms at the sum of N8, 000 each.
Mr Fidelis who pretended to be both founder and vice chancellor of the non-existing institution was able to swindle young secondary school leavers in dire need of admission into tertiary institution to further their education and study the course of their choice.
Mr.Fidelis’ cover was blown, when the Imo state police command got wind of the information and stormed the premises while conducting fake entrance examination for the first batch of students who already paid the sum of 8,000 each for the admission forms and examination fees.
Mr Katsina expressed disappointment over the incident, stating that the future of young people who are desperately in pursuit of their educational career is being toiled with.
He added that investigations revealed that Mr Fidelis swindled over 500 young boys and girls seeking admission into tertiary institution and this was revealed through the numerous admission forms and examination questionnaire that was recovered in the premises.
However, Mr Chukwujindu said he is a trained medical practitioner and that the institution he heads has been registered with the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja. He added that academic operations have not commenced due to setbacks.
Mr. Katsina, who promised indigenes that the force will ensure crime is brought to the barest minimal in the state. He also assured that Mr Chukwujindu will be charged to court for further prosecution, after further investigations.
