Fulani gunmen in the early hours of Monday, attacked Adu village of Attakar Chiefdom in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna state, killing at least eight people and leaving scores of children and women injured.
An eyewitness, Mr John Danfulani told Channels Television, that the gunmen also destroyed farmlands and properties worth millions of naira.
The attack came barely four months after unknown gunmen killed over 20 people in the same village and sacked over 10,000 from their ancestral homes.
The state police commissioner, Mr Olufemi Adenaike confirmed the incident and added that it was a reprisal attack between the Fulani herdsmen and the villagers.
He also said that the assailants, who are Fulanis, killed only seven persons, including women and children in an isolated hamlet comprising of six houses on Attakar mountain.
The commissioner announced that five people have been arrested in connection to the attack.
However he appealed to the warring factions for calm.
