Rooney thanks Hodgson for England selection

Wayne Rooney has expressed his gratitude to Roy Hodgson for picking him in the England squad.
The Manchester United striker has been included in Hodgson's party to face Scotland at Wembley on Wednesday.

But he has not featured in any of United's pre-season friendlies because of hamstring and shoulder injuries and amid speculation about his future.

Chelsea have made two bids for Rooney, whose only match for United since May 5 was a behind-closed-doors friendly against Real Betis.

And Rooney wrote on his official Facebook page: "Can't wait to join up with the England squad and hopefully play in a competitive match, they always are against Scotland.

"Big thanks to Roy Hodgson for selecting me and showing his faith and support, appreciate it."
Rooney has scored 36 goals in 83 caps for England and struck on his last international appearance, June's 2-2 draw with Brazil.

He sat out Rio Ferdinand's testimonial against Sevilla on Friday night but ESPN understands Rooney believes he is fit enough to feature in Sunday's Community Shield.
However, it remains to be seen if United manager David Moyes will pick Rooney against Wigan.
