Fayemi, Bamidele's Supporters in Fresh Bloody Clash

Supporters of a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele and those loyal to the governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, yesterday, engaged each other in a bloody clash at Iyin Ekiti, in Irepodun-Ifelodun Local Government area of the state.

The two groups had, last week Friday, engaged each other in a bloody clash during the burial of the mother of an All Progressives Alliance, APC, stalwart, Mr. Oladipo Akinwumi, a development that led to some of them sustaining various degrees of injuries and had Bamidele's operations office, located in Ado and the APC office at Iyin Ekiti, vandalized.


However, the Director-General, Campaign Organization of Opeyemi Bamidele, Mr. Ropo Ige and Mr. Deji Adesokan, a Special Assistant to the Governor on Security and the Chairman of Irepodun-Ifelodun Local Government Area, Major Tajudeen Awe, are playing a blame game over the crisis that broke out in the community.

Opeyemi's supporters had accused those of Fayemi of inviting the state co-ordinator of Odua Peoples Congress, OPC, Prince Adeniyi Adedipe, to cause mayhem in the community, but Adesokan and Awe denied inviting the OPC leader.

Vanguard gathered that trouble started, yesterday, when Opeyemi's supporters were protesting the arrest of two of their members by the police who came to effect the arrest of people responsible for last week's upheaval in the town.

They were said to have engaged the police in a scuffle, a development that left three people injured.
Opeyemi, in a reaction, has called on the police and the state governor, Dr. Fayemi, to probe the incident.
In a statement by his special Assistant on Media, Mr. Ahmed Salami, Bamidele accused some of the governor's aides of engineering the crisis.

The police image maker in the state, Mr. Victor Babayemi, said his men had arrested no fewer than seven people in connection with the clash in the town.

Meantime, Afenifere chieftain and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has said that Governor Kayode Fayemi and the police should be blamed for the spate of political violence being witnessed in the state.

Adeyeye, who called on President Goodluck Jonathan and the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, to save Ekiti people.
