NDLEA arrests 132 drug suspects in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, yesterday said it has arrested a total of 132 drug suspects between January and June this year. Commander of the agency in the state, Frank Hanacho, disclosed this yesterday to the media in Yenagoa, to mark this year’s International Day Against Illicit Drugs Abuse.

Hanacho said the statistics of the arrested suspects include 106 males and 26 females. The commander noted that the drugs seized include 39 grammes of heroine, 36.6 grammes of psychotropic substances and 65.98 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa.

“Beside the arrests, the agency said it has embarked on public enlightenment, drug education for schools and counselling on the dangers of drug addiction and trafficking in the state,” he said. Hanacho, however, lamented the uncooperative attitudes of the state Ministries of Education and Women Affairs that had always turned down their efforts to seek collaboration.
