NAFDAC Rewards 19 Students In Delta

National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday rewarded 19 students from different secondary schools under its Consumer Safety Club (NCSC) competition for secondary schools in Delta.
Some of the students who were rewarded in Asaba included Oyekwere Ikechukwu of Santa Maria College Ogwhasi-Uku, and Blessing Monye of Federal Government College, Ibusa.

 Ogorchukwka Okonkwo of Demonstration Mixed School, Asaba and Samanta Ewunema of PHCN Secondary School Ogorode, Sapele, were also among the recipients.
Each of the students got a travelling bag, texts books and other gift items.
Speaking at the occasion, NAFDAC Director-General, Dr Paul Orhii, said that the NCSC award was an annual event where students who had excelled at their various schools in the competition were honoured.
Orhii, represented by NAFDAC Zonal Head, South South, Mr Benson Kine, said that he was always delighted to see young people put in hard work, commitment and enthusiasm in their endeavours.
According to him, these traits are the necessary prerequisites for academic excellence.
Orhii said that the membership of NCSC was not just for the purpose of participating in annual competitions, but an opportunity for the youth to make positive difference in all aspects of their lives.
``As members of NCSC, you have the responsibility to assist in information flow on NAFDAC’s regulatory activities such as `pharmaco’ vigilance and fight against fake and counterfeit regulated products,’’ he said.
He said that as strategy for curbing the trend ``catch them young’’ initiative, was aimed at imbibing the culture of quality in young people, who would in turn propagate these values in their families and the general public.
The D-G reiterated the determination of the agency to sustain its fight against counterfeit drugs, unwholesome and other substandard regulated products in the country.
In her remarks, Ms Esther Aburime the State Coordinator of NAFDAC, said that the organisation adopted the initiative of ``Catch them Young’’ in 2002.
She said that 10 secondary schools in the state participated in the NCSC examination.
She appealed to NCSC coordinators in the state to start grooming their students for the next examination which is slated for October.
